  • Good performance, very cheap interior materials

Excellent basic cheaper car with good gas mileage, good brakes, and good drivability. A little noisy, but like most in its class. Cruise control is terrible with any hills on your trip. No real cupholders, power outlets, or USB plugs in the back even though this is NOT the low end Corolla. The seat material stains way too easily and can't be cleaned, even by the dealer. The floor "carpet" is NOT carpet, but felt---which CANNOT be vacuumed or really cleaned well at all. It is the worst floor material I have ever had since my first car(of many) since 1962! Bought used with 7000 miles, I took it to my dealer every 500 miles for checkup and service. At 38K, I took off the wheel to check the brakes and found the inside of the rotors were heavily grooved while the outside was barely used. The calipers were BOTH frozen. Unfortunately, neither brakes or calipers are covered under any warranty, and the dealership (Acton Totoya) offered me nothing when I showed them the problem! How could they have missed such a big problem if they really checked my car over each time? I fixed it all myself and now, with 68K, have had NO more problems with the brakes. The plastic front overhang is too low and has broken off twice when hitting the curb stones in parking lots while parking at low speed. The left front two speakers have not worked since about 10K and I haven't taken the door apart to find out why, but heard there is a problem with the door wiring just above the lower speaker. Except for the brakes thing, it has been an economical and zippy commuter car, but I will definitely go back to the Camry next time!
  • Not bad, not great.

I bought a 2016 corolla LE new last year with 5 miles on the odometer. One month later my wife and I took it on a road trip across the country and back. The car performed great and gas mileage was as advertised. Fast forward several months later and while driving to work a small rock flew off a dump truck and penetrated my grill and out a hole in my AC condenser. Toyota didnt cover it under warranty so I had to get it repaired myself. Not the cars fault but Ive never had that happen with any other car. I went problem free for awhile until I heard a banging sound coming from my rear brakes. It took toyota two weekends to replicate the sound and figure out that I needed new rear brake shoes. They covered it but at 23000 miles no car should need that repair. And I dont drive it hard. Another complaint is the climate control system. It makes a strange sound like the sound of a cd player when you change tracks. Its a slight buzzing sound and it comes from behind the glove box. Its pretty annoying and very random. Toyota had no answer and couldnt find anything wrong so it is what it is. The climate control also has an auto mode but sometimes even if the auto selection isnt turned on it will adjust the fan speed and fan location as if it is turned on. That too is random. The cloth seats are just okay. They stain very easily and are a bit hard to sit on. I will say as a grown man I have plenty of leg room and no problems with seating. In fact, the rear seats almost feel like a mid sized sedan. So good on toyota for adequately sized seating. Driving the vehicle is downright boring but I didnt buy it to have fun, I bought it to commute in. Gas mileage is good and you can get 40 mpg on the highway if you drive conservatively. If youre looking for a decent car to commute in and for a cheap price Id definitely give it a look. It has modern standard features and its overall a solid vehicle.
