 What's New for the 2018 Toyota Sienna?

Despite still being on its third generation of production, which is now eight years old, the Toyota Sienna marches on as one of the top-selling minivans in the market. And the 2018 model year gets enough updates to keep it fresh. The trims are still the L, LE, SE, XLE, and Limited models. There are also “Premium” variants of the upper-level SE, XLE, and Limited. And the Sienna remains the only minivan that is sold with the option of getting an all-wheel drive system instead of the standard front-wheel drive.

Performance

Powering the minivan is a 3.5-liter V6 that produces 296 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque and is paired with an 8-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission. With the front-wheel drivetrain, fuel economy peaks at 19 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. A three-row vehicle, the 2018 Sienna includes a pair of second-row captain’s chairs and a third-row bench seat for a maximum capacity of seven occupants. However, you can opt for a bench seat at the second row to increase maximum capacity to eight.

Features

The latest version of Toyota’s multimedia system, Entune 3.0, makes its debut with the 2018 model. At the base level, it comes with four speakers, Bluetooth wireless technology for hands-free phone operation and audio streaming, a rearview camera, and a 6.1-inch touchscreen display. Other base-level standard features include cruise control, three-zone automatic control, remote keyless entry, five USB ports for connecting mobile devices, and a 3.5-inch multi-information display. Upper-level additions or enhancements include a Wi-Fi hotspot for 4G LTE Internet access, nine-speaker JBL audio, 8-way power adjustability on the driver’s seat, leather upholstery, front-seat heating capability, a smart key system with push-button engine start, a navigation system, a power tilt/slide moonroof, and a dual-view Blu-ray Disc entertainment center that comes with a 16.4-inch display.

Safety

The 2018 Sienna is the first model of this nameplate to get the Toyota Safety Sense-P suite of advanced safety features, which includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, automatic high-beam headlights, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control. This is in addition to the Toyota Star Safety System suite; which combines enhanced vehicle stability control, anti-lock braking, traction control, electronic brake-force distribution, brake assist, and smart stop technology. And the airbag system consists of dual front impact airbags, a driver’s knee airbag, dual side impact airbags, and front and rear side curtains. Upper-level trims are more likely to get additions such as rear park assist, hill start assist control, a blind spot monitor system with rear cross-traffic alert, and a fleshed-out anti-theft alarm system to go with engine immobilization.
