2019 Toyota Highlander vs 2019 Honda Pilot

Proudly Serving Florence, KY

SUV buyers have a lot of choices these days, and it's not always easy to make the right decision. Take the Toyota Highlander and the Honda Pilot, for instance. Both offer roomy interiors, plenty of cargo area, and a lengthy list of safety features. However, we think the Toyota Highlander has the edge. Read on to find out why the 2019 Toyota Highlander beats the 2019 Honda Pilot.

Safety Features

The Highlander has a range of safety features that aren't found on the Honda Pilot. When descending steep slopes, the Highlander's downhill assist control makes it easier and safer; the Pilot doesn't offer it. While the Highlander Platinum has a bird's eye view camera, the Pilot only has front and rear parking sensors and a rear monitor.

Both vehicles have standard passenger and driver front airbags, as well as side impact and front side-impact airbags. You'll also find seatbelt pretensioners, FWD, ABS, stability and traction control, daytime running lights, lane departure notification, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert. The NHTSA does 35 mph frontal crash tests on every new vehicle. This test's results indicated that the Highlander is safer than the Pilot.

Warranty and Reliability

On the Highlander, Toyota covers scheduled maintenance for two years or 25,000 miles, whichever comes first. Here, the automaker pays for lubrication, oil changes, and other required upkeep. Honda has no scheduled maintenance plan. There are more Toyota dealers than Honda dealers, which makes it easier to get warranty service.

The Highlander's engine camshafts are driven by a maintenance-free hard steel chain, while the Pilot's camshafts are driven by rubber belts that occasionally need replacement. Reliable vehicles save you money, aggravation and time, and the Highlander is more reliable than the Pilot.

Passenger Space and Cargo Capacity

The Highlander has 3.3" more legroom, .6" more headroom, and one inch more third-row hip room than the Pilot. The Highlander's available rear cargo window opens apart from the rest of the lift gate door, which makes it easier to load and unload small items. The cargo window on the Pilot doesn't open.

While both vehicles are a good choice for busy families, we think the 2019 Toyota Highlander has the 2019 Pilot beat. See our inventory on our website, call us for more details, or visit Kerry Toyota to test drive the Highlander and see how it compares.
