 What's New for the 2018 Toyota C-HR?

Expanding Toyota’s stable of fine SUVs, the C-HR is a unique ride with a sporty, urban attitude. This SUV is all new, and it was designed from scratch.

Performance

Engineers designed the vehicle with a lightweight body and a low center of gravity. The resulting aerodynamic build has a 0.34 coefficient of drag. Then they welded key points throughout the build for stiffer handling. A large diameter stabilizer bar, a preload differential, and Sachs shock absorbers regulate how the vehicle responds to stress. Special engineering techniques were used to quiet the engine and transmission. Drivers command 144 horsepower with the help of a continuously variable transmission.

Safety

A great deal of emphasis was placed on safety as the C-HR was developed. Thus the new vehicle has ten airbags. A long list of safety features are found here that you won’t find at the base level of most rivals. A pedestrian watch and collision warning may signal the driver to stop. If the situation is dire, automatic braking may intervene to lessen impact or prevent collision completely when possible. Adaptive cruise control uses some of this capability to regulate the ride. A lane departure system signals the driver to straighten up. If it isn’t heeded, an assist gently tugs to bring the vehicle back within its designate lines. At night, the high beams automatically raise or lower to match light conditions on the road. For extra protection against side swipes, the C-HR also offers a blind spot system with rear cross-traffic watch.

Interior

The distinctive exterior is matched with a striking interior. Diamond patterns decorate dash features and the headliner. The meZone cockpit angles the dash instrumentation toward the driver. The touchscreen and a 4.2-inch multi-information display are in view without blocking the driver’s eye contact with the road. Bluetooth streaming audio is enhanced by Entune apps including the Aha internet radio app. HD radio makes it easy to find a station. Utilizing every inch of space, designers tapered the back of the chairs, leaving knee room for the backseat passengers. Footwell cubbies add legroom to be envied by the C-HR’s rivals. A chamfered headliner adds headroom. Extra sound insulation is tucked into the headliner and the A-pillars. Along with the acoustic windshield, these measures reduce the roar of the road. Drivers can enjoy a power chair, and both front seats can be heated. The top trim covers the seats in Toyota’s handsome leatherette upholstery.
