Performance

The Toyota Highlander LE may be equipped with a 2.7 L engine that generates a maximum of 185 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. An electronically controlled automatic transmission system with six speeds is paired with this four-cylinder engine. Capable of producing just under 300 hp and more than 260 lb-ft of torque, a 3.5 L V6 engine option is also available for the LE trim. This six-cylinder engine includes the Stop and Start Engine System in the XLE edition. Both engine versions use the Variable Valve Timing-intelligent Wide technology for the intake of air and fuel.

During the exhaust phase, the Variable Valve Timing with intelligence comes on. An eight-speed automatic transmission system works in sync with the V6 engine. This advanced transmission includes the Dynamic Rev Management and Uphill/Downhill Shift Logic. Additionally, both Highlander models have the Sequential Shift Mode and Snow Mode. Engineered to optimize traction on multiple surfaces, the Dynamic Torque-Control All-Wheel Drive system gives the LE and XLE trims tremendous off-road capabilities. An electric power steering system also lets you confidently handle these versatile Toyota SUVs.

Appearance

The Toyota Highlander LE and XLE are available in Shoreline Blue Pearl, Ooh La La Rouge, Toasted Walnut Pearl, Alumina Jade and other attractive finishes. Featuring five spokes and black center caps, 18-inch alloy wheels look great with any of these colors. Both models have the project-beam headlights that are covered in housings with smoked chrome finishes. These advanced headlights automatically turn on and off depending on lighting conditions. Daytime running lights (DRLs) are also standard in these Toyota SUVs. The XLE has many other premium exterior installations, such as the Chromtec roof rails and a flip-up rear hatch window. This model includes a moonroof with a power tilt/slide function, sunshade and jam protection.

Safety

The Toyota Safety Sense P (TSS-P) technology is standard in the Highlander LE and XLE. Featuring the Pedestrian Detection function, the Pre-Collision System decreases the risk of accidents with other vehicles and people. The Dynamic Radar Cruise Control also lowers the potential for front collisions. The Lane Departure Alert is connected to an external camera that determines if you cross into an adjacent lane without using a turn signal. Additionally, the Lane Steering Assist helps you stay in one lane. Capable of detecting other vehicles that are up to 2,000 feet away, the Automatic High Beams are also part of the TSS-P suite. The Star Safety System is standard in the Highlander LE and XLE. This package includes the Electronically Controlled Braking, Smart Stop Technology, Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management and other active safety features. Both Toyota SUVs come with the Safety Connect portal that includes the Automatic Collision Notification and Emergency Assistance.
