With the latest edition of this award-winning crossover SUV arrives at our dealership this winter, it promises to follow in the footsteps of the 2018 RAV4 while adding some of the most up-to-date technology and performance improvements. As the excitement builds around the release of the 2019 RAV4, car shoppers can choose the popular 2018 RAV4. If you’re wondering what the similarities and differences are between these two vehicles, then you’ve come to the right place. Here’s our comparison of the 2018 and 2019 RAV4.

New interior and Exterior

For the 2019 model year, Toyota changes the platform of the RAV4 to the new TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform, which opens the vehicle for new options and improvements. We can expect a wheelbase of 105.9 inches and wider track, which will allow for more legroom and headroom. This platform change will also allow drivers to equip the RAV4 with larger 19-inch wheels, which will be a first for the RAV4. The chassis construction will be 57% more rigid and the RAV4 will be lighter than previous models while sporting more comfort, convenience, and safety features.

The newly redesigned 2019 Toyota RAV4 will be the first vehicle of the Toyota lineup on the TNGA platform to get an all-wheel drive system which will feature Dynamic Torque Vectoring with Driveshaft Disconnect. This allows the new RAV4 to send up to 50% of the power to the rear wheels and direct it to individual wheels that need it most. The new Multi Terrain Select will allow for maximum traction on many challenging road conditions such as mud, snow, rocks, or sand. We also expect the new RAV4 to be equipped with Downhill Assist Control, giving you more confidence in challenging road conditions. The 2018 RAV4 is equipped with a 176 horsepower 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine that’s paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. This is expected to be replaced with a 203-horsepower 2.5-liter engine that will be paired with the Direct Shift eight-speed automatic.

Convenience and Technology Features

The 2019 Toyota RAV4 will contain many comfort, convenience, and safety features found in the 2019 RAV4. We can expect available heated and cooled seats, power liftgate, 7 or 8-inch touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Wi-Fi antenna. Every 2019 model will be equipped with automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, automatic high-beam headlights, blind-spot monitors, and surround-view camera. Available features in the 2018 RAV4 includes a 6.1-inch touchscreen display, Bluetooth connectivity, power moonroof, Entune system with satellite and HD radio, dual zone automatic climate control, sport suspension, SofTex seating, rear cross-traffic alert, and TSS-P system which includes collision-mitigation braking, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams.
